Shri Provash Ghosh, General Secretary, SUCI(Communist), issued the following statement today: “No sooner the assembly election in 4 states and one UT is over, the Central Government has hiked the price of commercial gas. As a result, commercial cylinders would now cost a record high Rs 3,071.50 up from Rs 2,078.50 a month earlier. The enormous hike is sure to hit restaurants, eateries, and other businesses hard, and the burden is likely to be passed on to the consumers, making outside dining and food delivery a much more expensive. Apprehension is round the corner that retail price of petrol-diesel would also rise steeply, in which case the general price line would jump further making life yet more unbearable for the common people. It bears recall that tamely surrendering before the dictates of US imperialists, the BJP-led central government stopped importing cheap oil from Russia and Iran and are now forced to buy American oil at much higher price. We vehemently oppose this sharp increase in LPG prices and call upon the suffering people to raise united voice of protest against the policy of passing on the brunt of capitalist crisis on the oppressed masses, with a view to compelling the government to withdraw the price hike forthwith.”
