A Parliament March of thousands of electricity consumers was organized on 4 March last October, the call of the All India Electricity Consumers Association (AIECA), calling for developing resistance to the privatization of the electricity industry, installation of smart prepaid meters, and the anti-people Electricity Bill 2022. The Sit-in-Protest Demonstration by electricity consumers from all states held at Delhi's Jantar Mantar in an extremely undemocratic administrative suffocating atmosphere was presided over by the organization's president, Swapan Ghosh. Bimal Das, former Deputy General Manager of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited, called for a united movement of engineers and employees along with electricity consumers to prevent privatization of the power industry and smart meters. A memorandum sent to the Union Power Minister demanded withdrawal of the anti-people Electricity Bill 2022 along with smart meters. K Venugopal Bhat, General Secretary, Samar Sinha, Executive President, Ajay Acharya Convener of Assam Electricity Consumers' Association, Subrata Biswas, the General Secretary of All Bengal Electricity Consumers' Association, Joysen Meher, Odisha in-charge, Lalit Ghosh also Bihar Electricity Consumers' Association in-charge, Bhashkarananda, in-charges of Delhi Electricity Consumers' Association, Mehar Singh Bangar, Secretary of Haryana Electricity Consumers' Forum, Somashekar of Karnataka Electricity Consumers' Association, Anavarthan of Tamil Nadu, Shivakumar from Puducherry, Rachana Agarwal from Madhya Pradesh, Sanjay Chowdhury from Tripura, Ramesh Parashar and others from 24 states and union territories of the country addressed the gathering. Next day, a national convention was held at the Shah Auditorium in North Delhi. The action programme declared in the main proposal called for a week-long All India Protest Week from 1 April to 7 to April. President Swapan Ghosh thanked everyone, saying that the valuable speeches of all the invited speakers of the convention had inspired all the electricity consumers who attended.
